We often get enquiries about our Cathedral Peak Guided Hike. Every Wednesday and Saturday, weather permitting, one of the Cathedral Peak Hotel guides sets off with a group of hikers (limited to 8) to the top of Cathedral Peak and back down again. The hike normally takes between 9-10 hours.
The difficulty rating for the hike is: For the fit only, and those not suffering from heights.
Whilst hotel guests are given priority, day visitors are welcome to join the Cathedral Peak Guided Hike. The fee for day visitors is R600 per person. A lunch pack can also be ordered for a further R120.
If you’d like to make an enquiry/booking with regards to the Cathedral Peak Guided Hike, please email our entertainment Manager.
Hi,
We would love to do a guided hike to Cathedral Peak on sunday the 28th of November. Is that a possibility? We would like to stay at your hotel the night before. At what time would we be back from the walk?
Kind regards,
Jacqueline Veen

Hi there, if we are staying at the hotel but not able to join the Wednesday or Saturday guided hikes, is it possible to hire a guide to do the hike on any other day? What would the cost be for a hotel guest to hire a guide for the day?
Hi Tanya
To hire a guide to do Cathedral Peak is R1300. If you require any further information please mail our Entertainment Manager on ent@beetleinc.co.za
Hi
What’s the ascent in metres for the hike from the hotel?
Hi Darren.
It’s a 1531m ascent from the Hotel to the top of Cathedral Peak.
You can see more of the climb on a YouTube vid from our Cathedral Peak Challenge Series held during 2018, here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAZVPJVzgDc
Hi there
When is the best time, weatherwise to do the hike?
Hi Ian
It’s always difficult to say, when it comes to the weather in the Drakensberg. However, generally speaking, from May – September there is less chance of rain. The closer you to get to July and August, the more chance there is of ice.
